Open to 5-6-7- and 8-year-old horses, for the third consecutive years the Derby numbers have grown thanks to the joint effort between IRHA, IRHBA, and Giancarlo Doardo’s organizing committee, LGV. Over 600 horses from Europe have made their way to Cremona of which 180 entered in the Open and just as many in the Non Pro division.
Samuele Varale and Elektra Step Youth 13&Under Derby Champions
The DenirobootCo. Non Pro Derby Qualifier opened the Quarter Dream Arena on Monday and concluded today. As the Derby finalists were determined, the Youth 13 & Under Derby Champions were crowned: Samuele Varale and Elektra Step (NRHA Million Dollar Sire Electric Code x Chica Little Step), a 6-year-old mare bred by Claudio Zocchi. The pair scored a 207 for the inaugural Derby title. “I’ve had this mare since she was a baby but showing here was a last moment decision so, even though it wasn’t easy, I’m thrilled,” said the young rider. “I want to thank my trainer, Silvia Racco, for riding me to this title. I look forward to the future with my mare and to more shows with other horses.”
DeNiroBootCo. IRHA-IRHBA-NRHA Level 4 Non Pro Qualifier Winners
Anna-Maria Zehetbauer and her 5-year-old mare SS Pretty Nifty (NRHA Four Million Dollar Sire A Sparkling Vintage x Custom Nifty Nic), owned by Zeidelhof Reining Horses and bred by Silver Spurs Equine, took the lead in both the $36,900-Added IRHA-IRHBA Non Pro Level 4 and $27,200-Added IRHA Non Pro Level 4 divisions. In the past two years on European soil, Zehetbauer rode the fancy mare to major European wins earning close to $128.500.
The World Reining 2025 Senior Non Professional Riders qualifier was run class-in-class with the Open Derby Qualifier.
Quarter Dream IRHA-IRHBA-NRHA Level 4 Open Qualifier - Section 1 Top Score
The day closed with the first section of the Level 4 Open Derby qualifier. Andrea Costa rode Gunnaceemerock to a 221.5 score to top the $62,480-Added IRHA-IRHBA and the $50.000-Added IRHA Level 4 Open leaderboard. The 6-year-old stallion, sired by NRHA Thirteen Million Dollar Sire Gunnatrashya out of Arc Cee N Sparks is owned by Daniel Straumann and was bred by Arcese Quarter Horses USA.
